Monday 2nd April , Yna mula cuti sekolah 1st term dia. Tapi tak de plan nak gi holiday pun sebab cuti 10 hari je. Plus , I mula mengajar on Wednesday & Thursday. Then ada jury duty on Saturday.
Yna ada cakap yang dia teringin sangat nak pergi Dataran Merdeka sebab I once told her that the place used to be my mother's playground when she was little , say in the 1950's. My mother was born in Malacca but she grew up in Kuala Lumpur before moving to Taiping in the 1960's. In KL she stayed at the Selangor Mansion / Jalan Masjid India area,,,,,so obviously Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Dataran Merdeka wasn't far from her home. You know what , I wish I boleh filem-kan kisah hidup my mom and my late grandmother....very colourful.
A short family history , when my mom was a kid , her nickname in Taiping was Ah Lun , in Chinese,,,,,Lun means 'Ethics'.....it was to describe the person that my mom used to be when surrounded by multiracial kids in her neighbourhood,,,,,someone with principals , own beliefs & disciplines. My mom's just an ordinary girl but she's very brave. For my mom , having a mother which is half Chinese.....living among the Chinese community was easily adaptable.
My late grandma told me one story once.......there was a day my mom came home crying because some older kid had beaten her. Instead of consoling my mom , my grandma caned my mom instead. My grandma was mad at my mom for letting others touch and beat her up. She told my mom to be strong and fight back.....the only way one can survive is to know how to protect diri sendiri. My grandma told my mom not to ever come home crying again.
Then on one fine day, a Chinese neighbour came to my mom's house telling my grandma that my mom had beaten-up her son who is older than my mom and demanded that my grandma teach my mom a lesson! My grandma said OK to the neighbour but she did not even punish or scold my mom *wink*.
Many many interesting stories masa my mom tinggal kat kawasan setinggan Cina kat Taiping dulu. I just love my mom & dad's love story. Story on how my Chinese background mom met & fell in love with my Islamic background father from Kelantan in Taiping and then eloped to KL to get married coz my mom's step father did not approve of their marriage. Insya'Allah , kalau ada peluang,,,,,,ada rezeki,,,,,,I will make their movie just like how arwah Yasmin Ahmad made movies based on her parents life.
Back to Yna,,,,,she's keen to know the history of Kuala Lumpur. So after work last Thursday , I took Yna pusing-pusing bandaraya Kuala Lumpur.....nasib baik tak hujan & tak jem teruk!
Now,,,,,back to the tittle of this post. Dah lama upload gambar-gambar kat Melaka ni. Terperuk kat draft since I posted my 1st Malacca post in February.
A recap , I was in Malacca during the Chinese New Year holidays this year. Read the Malacca post here.
This was on the 2nd day of us staying at Casa Del Rio , Malacca. Hot and sunny morning.
Still very early but you can feel the heat. I think it's because the hotel's situated very near to the estuary with connection to the open sea or Straits of Malacca....that's why laa panas semacam je....haba laut.
We headed down to The River Grill for breakfast.
I wanna dine inside but.....
MP nak makan kat luar.....eeeeeeeeeee......geramnya......bukan apa,,,,,,shortly mesti panas tapi for MP it will be easy for him to smoke. Uwaaaaa......tak suka , tak suka , tak suka.....
See.....the sun's slowly coming towards us.....comfy chairs for diners.
Breakfast here was semi-buffet. You can have bread , cereals , fruits & few other breakfast favourites from the buffet spread but you'll have to order your main course from the menu given.
I ordered Eggs Florentine with Hollandaise Sauce. Poached eggs with sauteed spinach and mushrooms over a toast. Delicious.
MP ordered Soft Boiled Eggs with Toast.
Arrghhhh! Makin panas....tapi belum kena kita lagi. Yna quickly finished her Omelet.
Before the sun hits us.......we managed to finish our breakfast.
Balik bilik suruh anak-anak mandi. Ashel suka sangat dengan bath tub ni. Fits 2 OK.
All set for jalan-jalan.
Lampu-lampu for outdoor. Just love them.
This hotel is all about it's details......nice.
Laluan pejalan kaki tepi Sungai Melaka , dari hotel menuju ke Jonker Walk.
End of the riverbank walkway......
.....walk ahead and you'll see the Hard Rock Cafe Melaka Rock Shop.....
Naga-naga berkeliaran sempena raya Cina kat Jonker Street....siang street....malam jadi Jonker Walk.....
That's how far we've walked.....from the hotel across the river.
We're heading to Menara Taming Sari,,,,,along the way , we stopped by at few spots for some photos.
Sampai jugak kat area yang dituju. We went to get tickets for our Duck Tour later at 3pm.
After getting our Duck Tour tickets , we went on to take the ride up high Menara Taming Sari.
20 minutes of waiting,,,,,,finally the space-ship like capsule headed down. Our turn now!
Up up and away! MP takut heights but not Ashel.....he's enjoying the ride up.
Higher! Higher! Dah nampak bumbung bangungan dah.....tinggi lagi....tinggi lagi....hehehe!
Ashel dah tak sabar nak turun dari tempat duduk.....
Public pool kat kaki Bukit St Paul.
Good aerial view of Melaka Town and the Straits of Malacca.
More views of Selat Melaka & muara Sungai Melaka.....ferry-ferry dari Dumai will enter this muara upon arrival terus ke Jeti Shahbandar near the Maritime Museum.
And that's our hotel! Yang ada jalur biru kat atas bangunan tu , that's the infinity pool.
Shots at the edge of the rotating capsule.
We then walked from Menara Taming Sari to Pahlawan Walk. Ada jual baju-baju & souvenirs kat sini. Ada food court , Newton Food Court kalau tak silap but most stalls tak halal. Food court yang halal ada , tapi tersorok ke belakang. Sementara nak tunggu our Duck Tour , we had some refreshments here.
Duck Tour tickets. I've taken the similar ride in Surfer's Paradise , Gold Coast , Australia 12 years ago. Rasanya Duck Tour ni mula popular kat Malaysia since 2008 kat Mines Wonderland. Selain Melaka , now Langkawi pun dah ada its own Duck Tour jugak.
Nicer shots of the Malacca Duck Tour amphibious vehicle :-)
At last the amphibious vehicle used for this tour arrived , time for some quacking!
Ada pemandu pelancong & 2 pilots.....sorang untuk kendalikan Quacker bus while its on the road and later change to a boat pilot.
Sampai kat sini.......kena stop kejap sebab nak transform bus jadi boat....
Yay! we're in the water dowh!.....
We're on the Straits of Malacca.
My son enjoying the ride.
Kebetulan , ferry dari Dumai baru sampai dan nak masuk ke Jeti Shahbandar , Sungai Melaka.
Masjid Selat or Masjid Terapung , Melaka.
Boat had to be disembarked kat tepi masjid ni.....
Transformation from boat back to bus now. Then kena quickly cuci lumpur & kotoran kat bahagian bawah bus/boat sebelum boleh dipandu masuk ke dalam bandar.
By the time bus naik ke darat.....si Ashel dah tertidur.
While we were on the bus , ada fun quiz.....The question was , what's the other name for this bus? I got the answer and told MP to shout out the answer.....it's Quacker. Dapat gift.....Wisel quacker....hehehe!
We had a good time walaupun tak se-grand Duck Tour yang I pernah naik dulu. By Malaysian standard....OK lah.
Approaching the Menara Taming Sari , pick-up & drop-off point of Duck Tour.
Since Ashel tidur.....perit lah kalau nak dukung dia berjalan balik ke hotel. So we opted to take a trishaw ride back to the hotel.
Me & the kids naik beca while MP walked slowly back to the hotel.
Menuju ke Jonker Street but making a left turn to Casa Del Rio.
From Menara Taming Sari ke Casa Del Rio,,,,,,RM30! Mahal la kot tapi tak kisah lah.....kesian pulak kat Pak Cik yang kayuh beca tu.....kena bawak I yang besar ni...hehehe!
Sampai hotel , rest kejap......then nak jalan-jalan cari makan. Masa nak naik kereta , saw this card kat windscreen kereta. Their staff siap bersihkan cermin kereta laaa......
Ronda-ronda kat Bandar Hilir and ended eating here at Nasi Padang Indori. We've ate here before , tak laa sedap sangat , boleh laa.....setakat nak isi perut.
The ambience of Indori.....
MP minta Cendol , Yna minta Honey Lemon Tea & I minta Jus Alpokat. Yummy sekali donk!
I've never tried Sate Padang......Hmmmm.....now after dah cuba,,,,,I sik suka. Sik nyaman for me. Sorry.
Nama pun makan nasi Padang,,,,,so banyak lah lauk yang di-order.....Ada gule perut sumbat for me & gule urat kaki lembu for MP.
Lauk-pauk for our lunch.....Ahhhh...rendang daging & sambel ijo pun ada.
Alhamdulillah.....how much? >< RM130.
Kekenyangan.....R&R kat bilik,,,,,malam nak keluar lagi.
Ingat nak bawa the kids naik river taxi ni tapi......tak pe lah.....diaorang pun tak minta....hehehe! Plus Yna dah naik dah cuma Ashel yang belum , perhaps next trip.
My kids with their gadgets......I nak tido kejap.
Around 6pm-ish , took my kids to the pool.
An awesome view of the straits from the Infinity Pool.
Replica kapal Portugis of Samudera Museum & the Menara Taming Sari was clearly visible from the pool.
This was such an unexpected surprise from the hotel. We were given a complimentary jug of ice cold water infused with fresh slices of lemon-carrot-green apple & celery and a plate of freshly cut juicy watermelon.
Knowing that my kids will be hungry after their swim,,,,,,I ordered some fried chicken wings for them to snack on.
We stayed at the pool till it was just us there.....
Dragging the kids out of the pool wasn't easy.....it's getting dark already and they still wanna be in the pool!
Time to go back to the room.....
Our next outing......the Melaka River Pirate Park
Got the tickets for the Ferris Wheel ride.
The Ferris Wheel here is an icon of this small playground. MP tak nak naik......gayat laa tu....hehehe! We even naik Pirate Ship.....sampai pening kepala dowh! Suruh MP ambil gambar I dengan Yna kat atas kapal tu,,,,,hmmmm....sekian. Asyik dok tengok kita kat atas kapal , dia lupa.
View of Malacca River from the Ferris Wheel.
Us in the gondola....
Ashel merengek nakkan toys yang tergantung-gantung kat fun fair arcade ni. He doesn't understand that you have to win the games in order to get the toys. Nak tak nak , MP cuba game tembak-tembak botol. He managed to shoot 4 out of 5 bottles down. Yay!
Dapat pilih toys,,,,,and Ashel pilih toy pistol ni.
Back to the hotel,,,,,,great , dapat parking dekat lift.
Nite view of the Malacca River from our balcony. Amazingly , this river used to be a very busy port once upon a time with trading ships from all over the world came docking here.....
We've had a long fun and packed day today......time to hit the sack now.
The next morning---------I went down for breakfast with the kids , without MP. He wants to sleep some more lorrrr....
With no MP around , naturally lah I pilih to dine indoor.
Again....detailing.....butter in a glass container....nice.
While waiting for our main course,,,,,,layan cereals dulu....
For main course today , I ordered Sauteed Wild Mushrooms with Rocket Salad on a toast & Yna ordered Plain Omelet.
I enjoyed the freshly squeezed orange juice. Sweet & refreshing. I had 3 glasses coz my kids didn't want it.
We had a great & peaceful breakfast....just us.
It's always a wonderful feeling to be around my kids. Priceless & precious.
Fast foward......time to check-out.
TQ to the ever attentive staff of Casa Del Rio,,,,Nawawi , Noor & El Zidane.
With superb hospitality,,,,,I will definitely come back and stay here. Insya'Allah.
Sebelum balik KL , singgah Mydin MITC. Nak lunch dulu.
Singgah makan kat gerai ibu kepada Azmarul Azuan , top 3 dalam program realiti TV Vokal Bukan Sekadar Rupa. Kat sini masakan ala-ala kampung. Best....siap tapau lauk bawak balik KL lagi.
Marul ni student vokal kat my studio. Been our student sejak 2 tahun lalu lagi. Very good student. Proud of his achievements so far.
Over all , we had a good short holiday in Malacca cuma I masih ada satu lagi janji pada Yna yang belum dapat I tunaikan. Yna nak explore Malacca. Nak pergi ke Makam Tun Teja , Perigi Hang Tuah.....but all these places is situated outskirts of Malacca Town and MP is not too game to travel from one point to one point just to see a tomb , a well & what nots.
Hmmmm.....I know that it's good to expose Yna to our local history and it's best to let her see the remaining of what's left from the history. I have a responsibility to 'teach' her whatever I can. We'll see how and we'll see what I can do to make the next History Trip to Malacca a reality for Yna :-)
A note for me : Can't wait for May *wink*
