Makan After Raya

5th day of Syawal.....dah kembali ke ibu kota , wah! Baru teringin nak makan rendang. Sejak raya belum jamah rendang lagi. Hari ni nak masak rendang ayam tapi sudah semestinya using my Dumb Cooking method laa.....hehehe! No blending needed but it tasted like you've put loads and loads of effort into it *wink*. Am pretty good at cooking dishes by not following the traditional method required but one key thing that I'll try not to take lightly,,,,,,make sure that the core ingredients are available :-

3 instant ingredients that I used in my chicken rendang....Instant coconut milk , instant rendang paste & instant kerisek *not in pic*

Yup! Just how you see in the pic above.....trash everything in the wok! *Hah....macam tu dia masak rendang?* I know , that statement is lingering in your head kan??? Hehehe! Rilex , rilex , learn from the Dumb Cooking expert....hahaha!

Chicken + cili paste + chopped ginger + chopped garlic + sliced shallots + lemongrass  + turmeric powder + galangal  + turmeric leaves + some water + salt & sugar........heat on and let it simmer on slow fire until the chicken's cook  :-)

Then.....in goes some coconut milk. Let it simmer......and then in goes the kerisek.

Lastly I added hirisan daun kunyit and let it simmer lagi. My chicken rendang done.

Yna requested for some kuah lodeh untuk dimakan dengan rendang ayam tu.

Sepanjang raya , adalah 4 kali I makan lemang. Watching raya programs with lemang & ketupat on TV throughout Syawal made me think that I've had enough of it. But seriously , it was enough for me.

Many nights in Syawal I made sandwiches for dinner. On one of the nights , it's beef bacon sandwich.

Quick , simple and filling.

On some nites.....just plain cream crackers with hot tea.

Was at Giant Bukit Antarabangsa to buy some butter and saw Golden Churn dah dijual balik dengan logo Halal from ICCV *Islamic Coordinating Council of Victoria Inc* , dalam newspaper dah pun ada story about this butter being certified Halal. Butter dari kilang pengeluaran di Australia is Halal tapi butter Golden Churn dari kilang pengeluaran di New Zealand yang our government haramkan. So , berani makan tak? Hehehe....Well , I would sebab dah ada certification Halal dari related bodies in Australia. Tak yakin? Tak yakin , tak boleh laa makan. Yang certified Halal di Australia pun orang Islam juga....so,,,,,the choice is yours. 1Muslim *wink*

4th Syawal : Bukit Melawati To Taman Melawati :-)

Last day in Kuala Selangor......

After breakfast , the kids nak swim. Alamak.....still early tapi panazzzzzzz....

My dad & my mom chaperoned the kids first......then I followed but I lepak kat tempat teduh , bawah pokok. My dad stayed near the kids.....mom later joined me under the shades.

Lepas swimming , duty Atok to comb Yna's hair. Bawa shampoo tapi conditioner habis. Kusut-lah rambut Yna sebab berendam dalam air klorin pool tu. I grew up with my dad always combing my long hair when it's kusut masai.....hehehe! He's very gentle.....and he's very patient with chores like this , walaupun rambut kusut tapi tak sakit or perit bila my dad sikat-kan.

While we were packing our luggages in the room , MP pergi panaskan engine kereta. Entah apa yang dia godeh sampai pintu belakang kereta tak boleh tutup! Nasib baik dia yang buat , kalau I yang buat......eeeeee......takut.....mesti kena marah! Sure punya lah.....My parents pun dah faham sangat pe'el MP. Ni sebab MP sendiri yang silap tekan apa benda tah kat pintu kereta tu.....dengan sabar-lah kita-kita semua menunggu. Dekat sejam jugak kita menunggu MP & staff De Palma dok godeh sana-sini and finally.....Yay! Semua OK. Pintu pun OK. Kita semua juga OK. Hmmmmm.......OK lah sangat....lama tu tunggu!

Hari ni dah tak jatuh public holiday lagi dah , so we can drive our car up Melawati Hill. Yes!

1 way up the hill , make 1 round around the hill & turun balik.

We made few stops as we towered the hill. Our 1st stop was at Perigi Beracun. We had to walk down some stairs to go to the well. My dad went venturing to a museum building across the well but it was closed.

......and.....our people just can't leave historical site as they should be. Mesti nak buang sampah merata jugak. Sampai-kan dalam perigi buta ni pun nak dibuang-nya sampah. So shameful.

Say what you like but Yes! Aku beraya dengan monyet. Kenak ngan kitak? Monkeys are not stupid animals , they're infact very clever,,,,,,most of the time much clever than some of us.....duhhh! We enjoyed their company & they enjoyed our company. Most of all , either you're a monkey or you're a human being or just a tiny kelip-kelip , 1 factor remains the same,,,,,,we are all God's creation. Just who are we to look down at one another *wink* :-)

These Silverleaf monkeys travelled in groups. So they'll move from one spot to another together. Before those 'stakeout human monkeys' go on blabbering about me & monkeys......Ya,,,,,I waited for the monkeys to capture some piccys. Perhaps you wouldn't do what I did but I'm sure if you were in a situation where animals are present,,,,,,,you'd do pretty much the same , tak kira lah binatang apa pun. And on this very day,,,,,,it's me and the monkeys. So,,,,,sue me. Owh!.....another reason why zoos & safaris was being created......for humans to pay and see those animals *wink*

These monkeys can be very cheeky and playful. They are not those aggressive ones.

This was our next stop , at the Baitul Hilal area *salah satu tempat tengok anak bulan*. I would say it's the heart of the hill laa....

Jalan sehala....tu yang during weekends & public holidays kereta tak dibenarkan naik ke bukit ni. Sesak.....dengan kereta , dengan orang , dengan monyet lagi.....hehehe!

Here's where most of the cannon's being placed.

Nak jugak posing dengan Cik Meriam....hehehe!

Tengah panas terik , ada pulak Abang jual cendol kat situ.......apa lagi....stop kejap order cendol.

Cendol with pulut for me please! The cendol was good. Not saying it because I was thirsty but because it's actually very good :-)

Cari spot untuk duduk pekena cendol. Monkeys were everywhere here. Tengok gambar MP. Masa mula dia duduk bawah pokok tu , tak de monyet. After few minutes,,,,,,monyet bawak geng....hahaha!

Food supply for the monkeys memang banyak dijual kat bukit ni. Tengok ramai pengunjung beli kacang panjang to feed the monkeys.

Ashel takut tapi nak dekat jugak....

Baby ni memang gerek. Monyet nak tarik kacang panjang dari tangan dia , tapi dia tak lepas-kan sampai monyet tu give-up...hehehee!

More monkeys at our next pit stop. Kali ni my mom pulak buat amal jariah kasi monyet-monyet makan. My mom gasak kasi Cheezels si Ashel. Last-last dengan plastik-plastik monyet rembat bawak lari.....

Kat Batu Hampar ni dikisahkan tempat pesalah dipancung kepala. Google-lah for the full history & story. I can only imagine of such heartless event taking place at this very spot. Poor souls that had to die in a cruel way , regardless what wrong they've done :-(

There was a tree near the Batu Hampar that was being referred as The Bleeding Tree sebab bila ditoreh batang pokok tu , ia akan mengeluarkan getah berwarna merah. Tak pulak dilabelkan pokok yang mana tapi this was the nearest to the Batu Hampar. Suka tengok susunan batu-batu besar kat kota lama ni......

Me , the kids & my dad took a stroll around the old fort where one of these cannons dikatakan meletop dengan sendirinya in the month of Ramadhan in the 70's. Banyak cerita yang diceriterakan dari mulut ke mulut tentang meriam-meriam kat sini. Everything still remain a mistery......

Kalau betul-betul round tempat ni dengan feel.....dapat rasa maya keadaan kat sini. Dunno why but I sense lots of pain & sorrow here. Cantik,,,,part of the fort macam istana lama Inggeris.

Last pit stop......Makam Di-Raja. Tapi tutup.

A story : When I was a kid , my parents pernah bawa me & my brother bercuti ke Bukit Melawati ni. Masa tu we stayed at the old rest house. Hari tu masa datang sini , nak jugak jengok ke rest house lama tu tapi tak jumpa jalan. Biasa-lah , tempat macam ni banyak sejarah....banyak pantang larang....'keras' katanya. Masa I menginap kat rest house atas Bukit Melawati ni dulu....my brother was playing with me kat luar bilik penginapan , jarak jauh jugak dari bilik ke tebing bukit. Tiba-tiba my brother macam ditolak dan bergolek jatuh dari edge of the hill ke bawah. Berlaku sepantas kilat....and it was out of a sudden. My parents were not stupid to let their young kids play betul-betul tepi lereng bukit. It was not their negligence , it was some other force that had pushed my brother as me & my brother stayed very close to my parents. My brother was lucky coz dia tergolek sikit ke bawah bukit dan tersadai atas batu bukit yang besar. My dad cepat-cepat capai dia dari atas tebing bukit tu. Kalau tak ada batu bukit , I'm sure my brother will not be around now sebab rest house tu memang terletak tinggi kat atas Bukit Melawati. *I have goosebumps writing this now*

Dress code to enter the royal mausoleum.....and we weren't properly dressed.

As it was closed , we took photos from outside of the mausoleum. Kat sini ada Meriam Penggawa. An interesting story about Meriam Penggawa can be read HERE.

Last round around pekan lama Kuala Selangor sebelum balik ke KL.

Hehehe.....semua lepak.....kepenatan.

Before going home we headed to Taman Melawati for some seafood lunch. Kat Kuala Selangor tak dapat makan seafood , so makan-lah kat Restoran Cina Muslim Mohd Chan Abdullah. Dim Sum for starters and home made Chrysanthemum Tea to quench our thirst.

Nyum!

A love hate relationship I had with you.....crab!

And.......my Yna's paying for lunch today guna duit raya dia. Good girl....hehehe!

Oh! Boy! Took me ages to finish posting my raya posts. Dah nak masuk raya haji dah.....hehehe! Sorry peeps. I just don't have the time to sit still and write. Perhaps I should start writing short entries like many bloggers does......but again.....it's just not me. See how lah.

Nite.

3rd Syawal : Jalan - Jalan Di Kuala Selangor

Rise and shine from Kuala Selangor........

Tidur best.
Cuaca sejuk sebab hujan plus aircond ada 2 biji dalam chalet tu. Both running at 16°C & 18°C.y
All in the family tahan sejuk kecuali my Papa.
I pulak suka tidur sejuk tapi selimut mesti tebal sebab kalau humid tak payah nak tidur pulak.

Pagi ni breakfast MP tak nak ikut. Dia nak sambung tidur.

Hari ni I made plans to check-out Taman Alam , situated at the foothill of Bukit Melawati. Nak buat apa kat hutan ni......biasalah,,,,,,I heard MP mumbling kat Yna as we get out of the car. Not a nature guy , itu I tahu but it's for my kids. I must educate them to love the nature and thank God they are showing positive signs. Ashel was so excited to take a walk into the wood , not like MP. He was complaining about the mosquitoes & God knows what. Yna's excited too.

Kalau ikutkan MP , semalam nak pergi tengok kelip - kelip tu pun dia kata buang masa.....Tapi bila dah naik boat.....dia sendiri witnessed an amazing sight,,,,,,,I can tell that he was mesmerized by it.

Taman Alam is big! I just love the sound of nature......daun-daun yang berguguran dari satu pokok pun cantik....it was in for colours just like those autumn leaves. This pathway will lead us to a small bridge.

After walking for about 20 minutes , we reached the bridge.....kat sini ada 4 trails if I'm not mistaken. We've covered the 1st one. On to the next pathway , taking us much deeper into the woods. MP was reluctant to continue but the kids wanted to go on. MP decided that he had enough of 'hutan' exploring and turned back. My mom followed him back too. My dad loves the woods and he lead us to finish the 2nd phase of our jungle exploration.

Would you go deeper into the woods? Hehehe.....

This 2nd pathway lead us to the lake! It was a huge lake.......by this time Ashel was already tired. Took us around 30 minutes to reach this area , slow walk. We didn't go all the way as it would take more that an hour to reach the visitor's centre where MP & my mom waited. Terbayang muka MP tengah menunggu kitaorang balik ke base. Next time lah. Dah dapat explore halfway pun dah Syukur'Alhamdulillah. Good experience for the kids.

Another 30 minutes of walking , we reached the bridge. Continued with the next phase of walking......another 20 minutes , Yay,,,,,,sampai ke visitor's centre.

After Taman Alam , ingat nak naik tram ke Bukit Melawati tapi tengok ramai sangat orang beratur untuk naik tram. So tak jadi. I was told that on the weekends & public holidays , public cars tak boleh naik ke atas Bukit Melawati macam dulu-dulu sebab takut jam kat bukit. Dah ye pun , jalan turun naik bukit tu ala-ala sehala pun. Insya'Allah esok dah 4 raya,,,,,,,,dah tak public holiday lagi......perhaps boleh naik dengan kereta. See how.

Since dah tak jadi naik bukit , apa lagi JJCM. We drove almost ke Tanjung Karang tapi kedai-kedai makan kat tepi-tepi jalan masih belum buka. Cuti raya lagi. Patah balik ke Kuala Selangor headed uptown , jumpa Tesco. Turun kereta nak masuk Tesco , ternampak Warung Pak Din kat corner Tesco ni.......ada nasi campur pulak tu.....apa lagi,,,,,,,belasah makan tengahari kat situ je lah. Malas nak cari kat tempat lain dah.

On the way back to the hotel , singgah kat Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Tanjong. Memang kena lalu sekolah ni untuk sampai ke hotel.

My mom telling her grandchildren a bit of her life history related to SMK Seri Tanjong.

Selepas keluar dari LI (Language Institute) / Maktab Perguruan in the early 70's my mother became a teacher. She was being posted here in Kuala Selangor and this was her first school. She was then already married to my Papa and they lived for about a year in Kuala Selangor before being posted to Sekolah Menengah Sungai Pari in Ipoh , then Sekolah Menengah Convent Kota in Taiping , continued her studies in UPM at the age of 40 , then underwent her practical at Sekolah Menengah Taman Maluri & Aminuddin Baki in KL , then being posted to Sekolah Menengah St Gabriel also in KL , then opted for an early pension before even turning 50 , continued teaching in a private school Sekolah Sri Inai Kuala Lumpur & PJ before retiring as a teacher in the mid 90's.

Made another stop at Bukit Belanda before reaching the hotel. It was a big historical site but kinda abandon. No idea why , when we were there.....jalan nak naik anak tangga ke atas Bukit Belanda tu dah ditutupi daun-daun dari ranting pokok yang mencecah ke tanah.

All of us hike up the stairs to the top except for a Dutch who's so not into history at all....hehehe! Yup! Siapa lagi,,,,,,,MP lerrrr......dia tak keluar dari kereta pun. Dia peduli apa.....kita nak naik ke Kota Belanda ke , makan durian Belanda ke......pendek kata , dia tak minat! Full stop. To him , he knew that he is half Dutch......so? To him Belanda tak kasi dia apa-apa pun , why bother? Hmmmmm.........that's MP. Me on the other hand , I want my kids to know and appreciate and learn about their roots. They must know a thing or two about their roots. I do not want them to grow up being buta......not good for mankind *wink*.

This was what's left from the old fort. We dare not climb much higher as the path were heavily covered with lalang & semak-samun. Memang-lah nak tahu history tapi safety must comes first. Takut jugak ada ular ke apa ke nanti. Tak pasal-pasal je jadi cerita lain.

I'm proud to have a dad like mine. He's into bits of everything. I can ask him about local history , I ask him about sports , I can ask him about the world news , I can ask him about cooking and I can even ask him about religion. I'm lucky to have such a father but I'm not sure if my kids can say the same.

A view from Dutch Fort Ultrecht , Tanjong Keramat. Betul-betul bersebelahan dengan SMK Seri Tanjong.....nampak pun bumbung sekolah dari atas Bukit Belanda ni.

Ni lagi satu masalah kat sini........tak berjaga. Penuh daun-daun kering atas anak-anak tangga. Tambah pulak dengan masalah kebersihan oleh orang kita,,,,,,,example of 3rd world mentality from Malaysians. Tempat buang sampah is in the tong sampah not on the stairs or simply throw your rubbish anywhere you like. Perlu ke diajar atau ditegur lagi tentang hal buang sampah merata-rata ni pada orang kita. Mana pergi kesedaran sivik orang-orang yang suka buang sampah ikut suka hati ni? Tak de rasa malu ke? Do they actually think that it's all-right to loiter just anywhere? You know what.......this is so shameful when an adult can't even follow simple rules.

Tempat ni masuk dalam senarai 'places of interest in Kuala Selangor' dan siap ada batu tanda oleh Tourism Malaysia but it was a pity that the place was abandon.

Enough of touring Kuala Selangor today. Now some time for relaxation. Relax tepi pool jaga budak-budak swimming sambil kunyah kuaci.

Memang tak tahu penat kan? Hehehe.....tadi dah lesu , dapat air......bermaya balik!

After swimming & makan......masing-masing dengan gadgets!

Fast foward.......lepas Maghrib , me & MP keluar pergi ke restaurant Colonel Sanders lagi sekali. Bought more KFC's. The queue was quite long.........

More KFC dinner!

Lepas makan.......semua terbongkang! Online & layan TV.

A full and filled day for us all. Not your kind of raya? Hehehe......well , I got someone condemning me on my way of celebrating raya......honestly , I don't care. But you got me on a bad day dude. In my defence , this is my raya so it's totally up to me on how I choose to celebrate it. I don't fancy a traditional balik kampung and kalau tak dapat balik raya sampai nak nangis-nangis kinda raya.....it has never been like so with me & my family. Back in Taiping when my grandparents was around,,,,,,,we've had such raya.....family & friends coming to the house non-stop till very late at nite. Kena cuci gelas tak henti-henti....masak , masak & masak berkali-kali dalam satu hari. Been there , done that. Somehow or rather , our family came to a mutual understanding that we are fine with the way raya was being celebrated nowadays. We enjoy a quiet raya,,,,,,with not much fuss. So what's your problem if I don't feel like gathering with other family members or cousins in my kampung , main mercun , pasang pelita & lampu lip-lap lip-lap keliling rumah , sibuk bakar lemang & masak rendang kat luar rumah ramai-ramai? That does not gives you the right to justify that I don't embrace Syawal. Who are you to say so? And if one day I choose to celebrate raya the traditional way........again , that's my call...not yours. Dosa besar ke kalau tak sambut raya dengan saudara-mara? My parents are with me and that's the most important thing. Nuff said. Morons!
